My top 3 Mascaras

A reader asked me what mascaras I like. She wanted one that doesn't smudge, flake, or look stiff. That's a tough one! However, I do have a Top 3 list of mascaras I love. Mascara is a hard cosmetic to recommend because what works for one may not work for another. I like A LOT of lashes. And, it's always the blackest of black. I also layer my mascara probably three times before walking out the door.  I cannot handle a mascara that clumps for that reason. With that being said, here are my Top 3:

Trish McEvoy Curling Mascara:
Let me tell you, I very, very rarely buy a mascara twice. There are just so many out there! And, I have gone back and forth to department store and CVS type mascaras. Some people will tell you that it doesn’t matter where you get it from, and it truly doesn’t. Pharmacy type mascaras are great, don’t get me wrong, but nothing compares (dept. store or pharmacy) to this mascara! It’s the only one that I have bought multiple times in a row. For one thing, I don’t need my eyelash curler when I use this, FOR REAL! Secondly, it coats each and every lash so that the definition is unbelievable. I have had friends ask me if I had on fake eyelashes. Thirdly, and probably most important for most people, it DOES NOT SMUDGE at all! Even when you wash it off (all you need is water), it comes off in lil’ tubes and doesn’t leave your under eye area smudged with residual mascaras at all! Fourthly, it leaves my eyelashes more supple and conditioned. It is a little pricey for a mascara, about 27 bucks, but so worth it! It will really last you a full 3 months. That doesn’t normally happen with drugstore brands.

Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara:

The brush is huge, and that might take some getting used to. But, tons of mascaras have that huge brush now, so you may have already tried one! I worked with a lady who swore by DiorShow mascara. I always thought her lashes looked great, but not any better than what mine did with this $8 tube of lash ink. This is my hands-down drugstore favorite mascara. It adds tons of volume without leaving my lashes looking stiff (like my current DS brand, Maybelline One by One). You can layer and layer this stuff and it will never clump...REALLY! The bristles of the large brush are rubber and "comb" through every lash. I have not tried the waterproof version, so I can't say if that works the same.

Cover Girl Super Thick Lash Waterproof:
I am not a fan of waterproof mascara. Although the Trish McEvoy is water resistant, I wouldn't trust it in the pool or ocean.  I have never seen a mascara hold a curl as well as this mascara does. It can look a little stiff, but that's because it's waterproof. My lashes stayed curled, long, and thick all day. With summer coming around, and this mascara in my makeup bag, my next quest is to find a really good waterproof mascara remover. Any suggestions?

Lemon Water

Doesn't that look refreshing? It is. Did you know that drinking a cup of water with a half to a whole lemon squeezed in wards off sweet cravings? Try it! It works! I don't like drinks too sweet so I don't use sweetener. Plus, what's the point?

I love to use this decanter
thing-a-majig in place of a pitcher. It makes a smaller amount and looks so pretty. Adding slices of cucumber in your ice water is delicious too!  Anyhoo, just thought you might want to give it a try, Bloggies...

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Friday's Fancies-Spring is in the air!

Spring is in the air today. Man, can I feel it. My allergies are killing me. But, that's not stopping me from looking like a fashionista today! I have a red nose to compliment it all. So what? :) I'm loving the flirty flow of this floral skirt. The cowboy boots (I've always wanted a pair), give it a kicked back look. The shirt (tucked in, of course) is just a funky companion to it all. I love the earrings! Can I have them, please?

Product Review-Avon's True Color Eyeshadow Quad

My mom and I went Avon shopping a couple of weeks ago to benefit a good cause, and I thought the shadow quads looked beautiful. They reminded me of the Chanel quads. Obviously, I was not expecting Chanel quality, but ordered them, nonetheless. I got mine in "Denim Blues." I figured that, for $9, I could afford to branch out of my normal shades.

What can I say? The packaging is a little bit flimsy, but the colors are nice.

I first applied them with the sponge applicator they come with (which never turns out well). It came out ok. I was just playing around before washing my face for the night.

The directions state to apply shade "2" or "3" (top right, bottom left) to the lid. I did one color on each eye. Apply shade "1" (top left) as the highlight under the brow. Check. Use shade "4" (bottom right) as a liner. That is quite tricky to do with the applicator in hand, unless you are going for a very smoky look. I actually put a bit in my crease for some more smoky definition.

I wasn't that impressed. However, the next day, I used my trusty ole brushes. It worked great. The highlight shade is a little too icy blue for my liking, but I did get a lot of compliments that day on the "smokiness" of my eye. I feel as though this blue pallette would look good on brown eyes or blue eyes (yes, blue).

(not the best shot, but I tried)

The blendability of the shadows aren't the best. If you aren't that adapt in applying eyeshadow, you may want to stick to the neutral shades. But, for such a little amount of money, you are getting four pretty shades of shadow that can be used day or night.

Bottom line? The price is great for trying a new shade and experimenting, but the blendability and degree of difficulty with the darker shades gives me frown lines.

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Random Thoughts

Random Thoughts
by Dawniebee
Yes, I know this is a beauty blog. Yes, I know “Random Thoughts” aren’t the norm. But, this is me. I am a girl who has a thousand thoughts, beautiful or not, running through her mind every single day. I need to put them somewhere before I explode. Sometimes, I am just in a mood, good and bad. When a friend is busy, or my mom thinks I’m just sad or angry, and my husband has had enough of my ramblings, I will find comfort in you, Bloggies (I could say Bloggers, but I’m not sure all of you blog, therefore, you are my “Bloggies” ). These are just my random thoughts on a day to day basis. I guess you could say this page is my online diary. Beauty means a lot to me, but it’s not everything I am. Thanks for the support, Bloggies. Enjoy the randomness.
I do not find the need for these randoms to bombard your dashboard as actual posts, so if you want to share in my randomness, just go to the tab at the top of the blog when you visit. Thanks!
Here's a little tidbit to get you started:
Dear Jackass behind me in traffic,
Didn’t your mom ever imbed in your mind the dangers of stopping on a train track? Now, not only did you just endanger yourself and your passengers, but me. I have a lovely husband and an adorable 2-year-old at home, who would not be too happy if they heard the news that some a*shole’s car smashed into me because he couldn’t wait three minutes for the light to turn green. I hope you're late to wherever it is you're going.

Sunless Tanners

I had a reader question (thank you!) about sunless tanners for fair skin. She wants to know which ones I think are the best for a natural looking tan. Now, don't hate me. I am not one to use self tanners. I am part Italian and do a good job of tanning during the summer. Like I said, "Don't hate me...please!" However, with that said, I did my research, and here's what I've come up with:

Jergen's Natural Glow Moisturizer. This comes in a lotion or a body mousse. I have actually used this and loved it. It really works! I think the only reason why I stopped was because it has a distinct smell and I get bored of things easily. The color come on gradually and looks very natural. It now comes in two formulas: Firming and Revitalizing.

Famous Dave's Fair Skin Body and Face Tanner. This tanning lotion was specifically designed for the fair skinned. The reviews are incredible. You can find it here

Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunless Tanning. This is a "natural" tanner. The only downside is that it takes a good 24 hours to develop.

Clarins Glow Body Lotion. This is about 25% bronzer and 75% lotion. It gives an unbelievably even tone to the skin and feels great too!

Here are some tips for making your tan even and long lasting:
EXFOLIATE, exfoliate, exfoliate!!!! Make sure to scrub every last inch of your body, especially your knees and elbows.

DON'T apply tanner in the bathroom right after the shower. The steam will disrupt the tanning process.

DRY, dry, dry your skin. Make sure your skin is very dry before applying the lotion.

WAIT at least 3 hours before showering or exercising after sunless tanning.

This is why I loved the Jergen's lotion so much. I could just put in on in place of my normal body lotion and be done with it.

Those are my suggestions. Do you have any for my fair-skinned friend? Let me know!

Oh! I almost forgot. Spray on tans, like Sun FX,  that are applied by hand by a trained technician come out awesome! They can be pricey, but really worth it for a special occasion. Stay away from Mystic Tan. That stuff reeks, and looks awful! Just sayin'...

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Product Review-Sun and Sand Yankee Candle

I know this isn't technically a beauty product, but who cares? It will make you envision yourself on the beach with your toes in the sand and a {enter your favorite cold beverage here}. This candle is the perfect blend of salt air, blue skies, cresting waves, and relaxation. So, it's still cold where you live? Light this candle, open your blinds, and wear flip flops in the house. It will make you happy.

I Wanna Know!

I wanna know what you think of Russell Brand. My first impression was that he is a cocky lil' Brit who thinks the world revolves around him. Now, however, I think he is hysterical, and am starting to become a fan. I haven't seen any of his stand up comedy, but I think he is so funny in the movie's he has been in. These movies, such as Forgetting Sarah Marshal and Take me to the Greek, although raunchy, are pretty hilarious. I love his accent, he has a handsome face, and his crazy hair looks good on him. Plus, he absolutely adores his wife, Katy Perry. Any man that publicly shows adoration for their other half wins brownie points with me.

I was looking around the internet for a video to put on here so you could see how funny he is, but they are not really At First Blush blog appropriate. He does some crazy improv. I guess you can see the crazy ways in those bug eyes of his, but whatever. He still makes me laugh...

I wanna know! Are you a Russell Brand fan or not?
