Lady Antebellum's Make-up Must Haves

Did you know Hillary Scott does her own makeup before shows? She says "it helps calm my jitters," according to InStyle magazine. Here are a few products she can't live without:

Amazing Cosmetics Powder Set:
"It makes everything waterproof so I don't worry about my makeup sweating off."

Stila Long Wear Lip Color in Darling:
Long Wear Lip Color
"It's easier to pull off a berry lip than a classic red. This stain has a chubby tip, so it's a cinch to apply."

And, last, but not least, Hillary loves Sonia Kashuk Brushes (a steal!):
Sonia Kashuk black HOLIDAY 6PC BRUSH SET
"Best makeup brushes ever. I stock up on them whenever I'm at Target."

So, there you have it. Even the famous seek out the good deals!!

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Must have artwork!

Remember that Massachusetts necklace I raved about? I found something else "Bostony" that would be a lovely addition to our home. I found this Etsy shop in my InStyle magazine. I'm thinking it might be a nice Valentine's gift for our house!
I love it with the hot chocolate background and either a fushia or cherry red heart (just in case hubby is reading ;)).

And, I would love to get one of these made for my little cherub, so he'll always be reminded of where he was born and spent the early years of his life (obviously with his birth state):

Hometown near my heart...

Do remember how I told you my husband and I took a leap of faith 6 years ago and left Massachusetts, 16-hours away, to North Carolina? Well, if not, now you know. Not that I'm ye of little faith, but it just still doesn't feel like home, so can you imagine my excitement when I found this necklace? I'm always trying to find ways to have Boston close to my heart.

How frickin' cute is this? It even has a stone where Boston lies. I think this will be going on my Pinterest board so that I can remember it when my birthday rolls around!

What state do you keep close to your heart?

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Poncho or not to Poncho?

For some reason, I'm really loving this Tory Burch Caterina poncho (not that I could ever afford it). I love colors and versatility. It can be worn just like in this picture in the spring.

Or like this in the summer over a bathing suit:

or it could be layered under a long sleeve shirt and jeggings with Uggs for the winter!

Oh, to dream and have money to buy expensive things!

A Word About Hydroquinone

Hydroquinone (HQ) is a skincare ingredient that you may or may not have heard of.  You probably have if you suffer from melasma or any other kind of deeply pigmented skin (acne scarring, sun damage/spots). Chances are your doctor or skin care therapist has prescribed you a product with said ingredient in it. I don't want to be long winded here, but there is a lot of controversy on the subject of hydroquinone. There are websites out there, like this one: will scare the bejesus out of you if you have used or are currently using HQ. Now, I must say there are safer ways to get rid of pigmentation and I do believe the claims of such websites to an extent. The product has been banned in Europe, and that has to say something. They are so much more strict on the ingredients used in skincare and food. With that said, anything they ban is probably cause for concern (at least I think so).

On the other hand, I also think that hydroquinone has gotten a bad rep based on studies done in areas where women were abusing the product, such as Asia and Africa. Asian and African women, in general,  have a stronger desire to even out their skin and lighten it. Tangent: For what reason? I don't know. I think their skin is beautiful just as it is. I guess it's just society's sick way of telling people what's beautiful and what's not. End Tangent. A lot of women were buying extreme amounts of hydroquinone. The US only allows 2% (at most) of HG in products.

I am writing about this ingredient because, as a teenager and 20-something acne sufferer, I would do anything to get rid of those pesky red acne scars; just as much as your 40 and 50-somethings who want to rid of those pesky "sun spots." There are other ways...

I was just reading about this product called, Luminaze. It's probably expensive, and only sold in select department stores, but you should check out their website. It's mushroom and enzyme based. The mushrooms were found in the Swiss Alps. It seemed as though all the bark surrounding these particular mushrooms were decoulorized, so the scientists took off with it, and figured out it can do the same thing to meltonin (the dark spots and melasma) in the skin.

Here's their website if you want more information:
It looks pretty cool, but just a little out of my budget right now. If you try it, let me know how it works!
